A few weeks ago I treated myself to a few bulk cooking style cookbooks. One that I have found most useful is Make-A-Mix. See below..
I love this book! My mob is pretty fussy and if dinner is not on the table around 6.30pm, they start to get restless. This book has really nice, homestyle recipes, ( truly!) that you make from various different basic mixes. Some mixes you freeze, some you refrigerate, some you keep in the pantry. But they work and are fabulous!
So far I have made the 3 meatloaves to freeze, ( 1 left!), made the 3 meals of meatballs ( these became Swedish meatballs in a flash), the white sauce mix is brilliant, as is the Italian tomato cooking sauce ( became a lovely ragout, and tomorrow chicken cacciatore).
The book covers everything from snacks, entrees, cakes, breads, cookies, to main meals and sweets. And all so far has been yummy...and the type of food our family eat a lot...but it is getting on the table a lot quicker!
On the budget side, it is also a lot cheaper to purchase your meats in bulk, so cooking this way is cheaper too.
